Ocala, FL – Alfred “Al/Mike” Frederick Knight, 80, passed away peacefully at home, June 10, 2019. Born March 14, 1939, in Kingsley, MI, to the late Lucas Henry and Dora Mae (Srackangast) Knight. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and the U.S. Coast Guard. After faithfully serving his country for 23 years and receiving many outstanding commendations, he retired in 1984 as an Aviation Electronics Technician 1st Class and Search and Rescue Aircrew man from the US Coast Guard Air Station at Traverse City, Mi. A beloved hobby of repairing outboard motors became a booming business when he opened Knight’s Marine in Kingsley, MI shortly after retirement. He operated his business as long as he could lift outboard motors and even after he could no longer do so he offered free advice to anyone who needed it. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Above all he treasured time spent with his six grandchildren.
He is survived by his three children, Jacqueline Ann Edelmann, of New Port Ritchey, Fl , James Andrew Knight (Kathleen), of Olean, NY, Jennifer Lynn Barlow (Russell), of Ocala, FL; six grandchildren, Danielle (Jay) Pskowski, of Dade City, FL, Anthony Edelmann, of Tampa, FL, Justin & Travis Barlow, of Ocala, FL, and Kayla & Joshua Knight, of Olean, NY, and former wife and friend, Patricia Ann Knight, of Olean, NY. He is also survived by his two sisters, Linda Luotonen, of Sterling Heights, MI and Eleanor Wasson, (Ralph) of Dewitt, MI and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his infant son, Gary Dewayne Knight, his parents, Lucas Henry and Dora Mae (Srackangast) Knight, his sisters, Boneita Deo and Lucy DeNoyer, his brothers, John “Jack” Knight and infant ElJay Knight, and his brothers-in-law, Richard Deo, James DeNoyer, and John Luotonen.
Visitation will be held on Friday June 21, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home: 305 Sixth St. Traverse City, MI, 49684.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday June 22, 2019 at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior, at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home: 305 Sixth St. Traverse City, MI, 49684
Full military honors will follow the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in memory of Alfred Knight can be sent to the Fife Lake EMS, 134 Morgan St., Fife Lake, Mi 49633
All who knew and loved him will miss his infectious smile, silly songs, and jokes.
