Alton graduated from the School of Forestry in Lake City, FL, and later worked for the U.S Forestry Service for many years, along with Godwin Sawmill. He proceeded to open his own company, Peebles Timber. Alton also had a strong talent of building homes. He was accompanied by his best buddy, Bobby Peebles in constructing the home where he raised his beautiful family.
One thing for certain, Alton Peebles loved his church; his brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ. He was always willing to share The Word of The Lord to assure that he would once again meet his friends in Heaven. He was a loving man, who was a leader in honesty, gratitude, and respect. He was a man with a plan. He was a stubborn, nap taking rascal. He especially enjoyed going mullet fishing. It brought him great pleasure to visit and hunt in Kentucky with his nephew Gerald Godwin (Charlotte).
His last words were, “I am ready to go sit on the front porch now.” If you knew Alton, he loved his rocking chair. Now let his soul be at rest as he watches down on all left behind. He will forever be his family’s guardian angel.
A small graveside service for immediate family only will be held at Waldena Cemetery in Lynn, FL, officiated by Pastor Wayne Hunter. A memorial service will be held at a later date at First Baptist Church of Silver Springs.
