Barbara Ann Plattis, age 89 passed away at home in Leesburg, Florida on November 18, 2023. She was born in Wisconsin, the daughter of Archibald and Florence Gurney. Barbara married George Tearman II in Janesville, Wisconsin and then Harry Plattis in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
Barbara was preceded in death by George, Harry, her parents and all six siblings: Bud Gurney, Alice Gurney, Louis Gurney, Robert Gurney, John Gurney, and Donna Coleman.
Barbara is survived by her eight children; Tom (Kathy) Tearman, Helen (Gerald) Hoesly, David Tearman, George (Judy) Tearman III, Loren (Donna) Tearman, Micheal Tearman, Robert Tearman, Jennifer (Scott) Drewel, several grandchildren, a few great grandchildren, a couple of great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, two sisters-in-law, two step daughters, other relatives and friends.
Throughout her career, Barbara held various positions at the Lake Geneva utility corporation, Harry's Tool and Die company, and Walmart. She spent her free time golfing and gambling. She also enjoyed working on puzzles, playing computer games and dice games, especially Yahtzee. Her favotite moments were watching the birds and squirrels that would come visit her.
The family would like to thank Cornerstone Hospice Foundation, in Tavares, Florida for the wonderful care and support they provided Barbara and her family during this time.
A private family service will be held in December at her final resting place: The Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery in Gainesville, Florida.
