Burl Michael Garvin

On the evening of February 17th, 2024, Burl “Michael” Garvin passed away peacefully at home in Ocala,

Florida. Michael was 62 years old. Michael was born in Joplin, Missouri to Gary Garvin and Joy Dorrity.

He graduated from Orangeburg High School in Orangeburg, South Carolina in 1980. He continued his

education to become a financial advisor and worked at Bankers Life and Casualty, where he received

several awards. He later started his own business, Michael Brooke Financial.

Michael was married 42 years to the love of his life, Tina. They had a wonderful marriage and life

together. They have two amazing children, Corey and Brystle, and he never missed an opportunity to tell

people about them. He enjoyed coaching them and cheering them on in everything they did. He always

loved to make people laugh and always played pranks on his family and friends. He enjoyed being

outside, watching the birds, and working in the yard. Michael was always ready for an adventure. In

recent years, his children often accused him of loving his loyal dog, Luna, more than them.

Michael is preceded in death by his mother, Joy Dorrity. He is survived by his wife, Tina Garvin, children

Corey Garvin (Chelsea Frost), Brystle Garvin (Xavier Delos Reyes), his father Gary Garvin, stepfather

Charles Dorrity, sisters Jeri Compton (Bill) and Gara Horsley (Don), brothers Shane Dorrity (Melanie),

Justin Garvin, Charles Dorrity Jr. (Patricia), as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A celebration of Michael’s life will be held March 2 at 2:00 pm at Countryside Funeral Home, 9185 NE

Jacksonville Road, Anthony, Florida. Family and friends are welcome. In leu of flowers please make donations to St. Jude's.
