Carl Thomas, Jr.

September 9, 1943 — April 20, 2020

Ocala

On Monday, April 20, 2020, Carl Granville Thomas, Jr, went home to be with God. Carl was born in
Hampton, Virginia on September 9, 1943 to Carl and Nancy Thomas. He was raised in the Tidewater area
of Virginia and eventually graduated from Hampton High School. He went on to achieve high honors
while graduating from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Business with a double major of
Marketing and Management. Over the next fifteen years, Carl had two sons, and he was lucky enough to
marry the love of his life, Sue Morgan, on May 23, 1981. About a year later he moved his family from
Virginia to Greenville, South Carolina. Here his family developed and thrived for nearly 30 years before
he and his wife then moved to Ocala, FL to rejoin their younger son and help him build his medical
practice.
Carl was a devoted father to his two sons, and he was a fiercely loyal and dedicated husband to his wife.
He was a man of intelligence and integrity, and these attributes were displayed throughout his career in
Human Resources Management for Bowater, Insurance Administration for Metlife, and, most recently,
as Chief Financial Officer for Thomas Internal Medicine. In his latest endeavor with Thomas Internal
Medicine, he spearheaded the project to procure land and build a new medical office in Fort McCoy,
Florida which will positively impact innumerable lives over the course of the coming years. He later
coordinated the expansion of Thomas Internal Medicine, first by helping to open a second office and
subsequently coordinating the purchase of and transition into a larger building to better facilitate the
growing needs of the practice.
He was a devout Christian as a member of the Presbyterian church who served his congregation and his
Lord in multiple ways. He was a member of St. Giles Presbyterian in Greenville, SC where he served as an
Elder, Sunday School teacher, Youth Group leader, and he was on the pastor nominating committee. He
then moved to Ocala, FL to work with his son, and this led him to Fort King Presbyterian. Here he served
on the finance and personnel committees in addition to being part of the pastor nominating committee.
His light shown like a beacon of love and guidance, and he certainly spread that light to a great number
of people with the multitude of commitments and sacrifices he made to serve others.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Susan Morgan Thomas of Ocala, Florida; his older son, Carl
Granville Thomas, III of Anchorage, Alaska; his younger son, Dr. Greyson Clarke Thomas and his wife
Allison Cassandra Thomas as well as her daughter Isabella Capri Price of Ocala, Florida; and his sister-in-
law, Cindy Morgan Jeffers of Chesapeake, Virginia. He is preceded in death by his father, Carl Granville
Thomas, Sr.; his mother, Nancy Thomas Kent; and his mother-in-law, Rachel Barden Morgan.
Carl was a truly special man and his family, friends, and those whose lives he touched will miss him
incredibly. He was the foundation on which his family was built, and as such, his legacy will continue to
flourish and positively impact others for years to come. Go with God in Peace. We will forever love you
Papa Carl.
