Claude Douglas Ritchie

June 26, 1949 — December 25, 2023

Claude Douglas Ritchie of Woodstock New Brunswick passed away suddenly on

Dec 25th, 2023, at his winter home in Ocala, Florida.

Born in Canterbury, New Brunswick, Claude wanted to see the world, so he joined

the Canadian Armed Forces in 1969 and became a Military Policeman. After

completing basic training, Claude was posted to CFB Borden, Ontario and this is

where he met his wife of 53 years, Diane.

Soon after, the first daughter, Lori-Anne Ritchie Kurz (Dustan Kurz) arrived.

While posted to Ottawa, Ontario, A second daughter, Tanya Marchuck (Dwayne

Marchuk) was born. After being posted to Goose Bay Labrador, Newfoundland,

Deena-Ray Ritchie Howse (Brad Howse) the third and last daughter arrived.

With Diane and the 3 girls in tow, Claude continued his career in the military with

postings to CFB Gagetown, CFB Downsview, and CFB Lahr Germany. Claude

retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in 1992 at CFB Borden and returned to

Lincoln, New Brunswick.

While in the Military, Claude drove semi-trucks as this was his true passion. On

retiring from the Canadian Armed Forces, in 1992 he continued to drive but only

during the summers until the summer of 2023 when he decided he would

OFFICIALLY retire.

Claude was a loving family man always taking his family on crazy adventures.

This continued when his grandchildren started to arrive; Makayla Brinton,

(Patrick) Jordynn Brinton, (Adam) Gabrielle Ritchie, Parker Ritchie Williams.

When great grandchildren arrived, he was just as excited to start new adventures

with Emerson Van Vliet, Addisyn Bauder, Dalton Williams.

Claude Enjoyed his winters in Florida, outside swinging on the swing, doing

jigsaw puzzles, watching game shows as well as training films. (Police shows)

Claude was a true handyman, he enjoyed working on cars and fixing things around

the house. Claude could always be counted on to help neighbors wherever

needed. He enjoyed bowling, pool, darts, hunting and fishing.

Claude was always happy and had an infectious laugh. Loving to torment

everyone. People were drawn to him and enjoyed his company. He was well

respected. In the workplace as well as his personal life. Claude left this world far

too soon, leaving a void that can never be filled. He leaves behind a legacy of love,

compassion, and unforgettable memories. He will be remembered for his loving,

caring and nurturing personality.

Claude is predeceased by his parents Douglas and Betty Ritchie (Cyr); his brothers,

Paul, Ralph, Kenny; his sisters, Shirley Hawks and Barb Grant.

Claude is survived by his brothers, Cliff Ritchie (Debbie), Richard Ritchie; and a sister, Cecile Messervey.

He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. As well as a lifetime of friends

from coast to coast that mean so much to him.

Claude gave the gift of life through organ and tissue donation. A Celebration of

Life will be arranged for a later date.

We would like to thank everyone for their kind words. For those who wish,

donations can be made to the Military Police Fund for Blind children. Or a charity

of your Choice.
