Pastor David Allen Chaffin, 63, of Ocala, Florida was welcomed into glory on July 27th, 2017 with his wife and family by his side.
David Chaffin was born July 9, 1954, in Springfield, Ohio to Mr. and Mrs. Everett Chaffin. He was the second child born into the family of three.
David accepted Christ as his Savior and then as a young man he surrendered to full-time Christian service. He attended Trinity Baptist College and graduated in 1979. He served as Youth Pastor at Bible Baptist Church in Ocala, Florida for 2 years. David was ordained on May 18th, 1982 at Bell Street Baptist Church, in Marshall, Texas and served as the Senior Pastor for 11 years before returning to his hometown in Ocala. He has served as the Senior Pastor of Ocala Baptist Temple for the past 24 years. He was the founder and leader of the Ocala Baptist Fellowship, and a faithful contributor to "Called To Glory" with devotions that edified Jesus Christ, by sharing the gospel and encouraging the brethren.
David met the love of his life, Cynthia Chaffin, while attending Bible college and they were married and enjoyed 40 years of life together faithfully serving the Lord. They raised six beautiful children, Christina Houghton of Hudson Florida, Mark Chaffin of Marcola, Oregon, Elizabeth Vasseur of Lutz, Florida, Deborah Bratten of Land O' Lakes, Florida, John Chaffin of Gainesville, Florida, and Rebecca Chaffin of Land O' Lakes, Florida. David and Cynthia dedicated their children to the Lord, taught them the scriptures and they each know the Lord Jesus as their personal Savior.
He is preceded in death by his father Everett Eugene and survived by his mother, Bonnie Ioffredo of Ocala, Florida, his brother Marvin Chaffin of Middleburg, Florida and his sister Sondra Curtis of Leesburg, Florida. He has six grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and one uncle.
Pastor David was a faithful and devoted servant of our Lord Jesus Christ. He loved God, the Word of God, and the church of God. A man greatly beloved of the Lord, who forgetting self, preached the gospel from the Word of God with unwearied perseverance and unwavering faith. As he walked and communed with God, his prayer life was one of interceding for the cause of Christ. David was a mighty prayer warrior, and would challenge us all to be fervent in prayer. He was an example of sacrificial love and generosity who gave of himself to bless others as Jesus did for the gospels sake .
Two quotes by David embedded in our hearts and minds are: "Don't change the message, the message changes you" and "The Bible should be in your heart, home and hand." David loved and breathed God's Word, who shared the gospel in season and out of season. Every word in the Bible was precious to him. Proverbs 3:5,6, Romans 5:8, 10:13, Psalm 37:23-26 and Romans 12:11-13 were scriptures he loved and spoke often about the last years of his life.
David knew heaven was his destiny, and with amazing grace and peace, God upheld him in his greatest hours of need with no words of complaint, but with praises to his Lord. David knew that his God would never leave him nor forsake him. He fought the good fight, ran the race and kept the faith. The grace of God shown through him even more so in his last days and God has welcomed David with these words, "Well done, good and faithful servant." He shall forever be with the Lord.
The challenge to all first and foremost is to be saved, knowing heaven is your destiny. Secondly, to all is to follow David's example as he followed Jesus Christ his Savior, remain faithful to the Word of God, uncompromising to the truths of the Word of God and walk with God.
The family has requested flowers be sent to Countryside Funeral Home, or donations be given to the supported missionaries of Ocala Baptist Temple.
