Anthony - Donald C. Lindsey, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at home on August 3, 2024. He was born on October 15, 1931 in Lowell, Florida. The son of Carlton Lindsey from Wrightsville, Georgia and Lenora Mixon Lindsey of Ocilla, Georgia.
After turning fifteen his mother agreed to tell the enlistment officer that he was seventeen. Donald celebrated his sixteenth birthday in the Army-Air Force aboard a troop carrier in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. They stayed in Japan for a few weeks in November, 1947. He was attached to the 618th aircraft control and warning squadron and sent to the Philippines where they built steel towers for communications. After only one year he rose to the rank of Sergeant. Upon arriving back in the United States his first son was born in 1951. Over the next twenty years he would have five sons.
July of 1950 he began a 38 year career with Florida Telephone Corp, starting out as a lineman, working way into engineering and then he retired as the manager of Engineering. Because of his expertise, Henckel and McCoy sent him all over the United States to complete underground utility projects.
He is survived by sons; Donald, 73 of Morgantown, KY, Wayne (Susan), 69 of North Ft. Myers, FL, Alan, 66 of Ocala, FL, Keith, 62 (Brenna) Blue Ridge, GA, Wesley, 53, Ocala, FL
; grandchildren, Donald (Shannon), Becky (George), Wayne (Jody), Michael (Nicole), Tyra, Dustin (Mary), Marc (Amanda), Nikki (Jason), Tyler (Lauren); great grandchildren, Alec, Jarrett, Lauryn, Lindsey, Logan (Sierra), Garret, Ryan, Colon, Jordan, Isaiah, Emma, Kaitlin, Morgan, Alyssa, Cailyn, Tanner, Ashton, Tristan, Jailea, Emily, Easton and Dalton; great-great grandchildren, Preston, Wesley, Wyatt, Gavin and Jayden.
He was preceded in death by his four loving sisters, Verna, Janette, Shirley and Betty.
A Visitation will be held Friday August 9, 2024 from 5-7 pm at Countryside Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday August 10, 2024 at Countryside with Interment to follow at Millwood Cemetery.
The family would like to thank everyone that has sent prayers of encouragement over the past three weeks.
