Doris Jane McDaniel Bulla was born in Greensboro, N.C. to JW and Nora McDaniel on July 17th, 1934, and joined her elder sister Meadie Hunter (deceased). Doris went to her Heavenly home on Monday, May 6th, 2024, at the age of 89, in Ocala, FL. Doris married the love of her life, Robert Bulla, on January 22nd, 1954. God blessed them with 3 wonderful children, of whom she was very proud. April Bulter, Ocala, FL; Ron (Rebecca) Bulla, Asheboro, NC; Christopher (Stephanie) Bulla, Sparr, FL. She had 2 grandchildren that she loved dearly and enjoyed doting on: Adam (Kimberly) Butler, W. Melbourne, FL , and Brady Bulla, Sparr, FL.
The family moved to Ocala in 1963 and joined Oakcrest Baptist Church, where they became highly active and involved members. Doris sang in the Oakcrest choir for over 50 years and held many offices in the church. She delighted in being part of the Sunshine Sunday School class and came to regard and love her fellow members as sisters.
Doris enjoyed writing skits and monologues, which she would then perform at various churches throughout the community. One of her favorites was “The Mop Lady”. She could bring tears to your eyes one moment and cause raucous laughter the next, but she always ensured to get the message across.
Doris had many hobbies, but her favorite was working in her yard. She has been heard to say that her back garden was where she and God had their best conversations. She would talk out loud and sing His praises while tending to her plants and flowers. Many of her problems were solved amongst the birds and flowers. This is one reason she liked the hymn “In The Garden” so much, she could relate so well to the words.
Services for Doris will be held Friday, May 10th, 2024 at Oakcrest Baptist Church in Ocala, FL. Viewing 10 am, Service 11 am, Interment 12 pm at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ocala, FL.
