Ocala - Dr. Jesse David Bloom, 98, went to be with the Lord February 15, 2018. He was born in Dubois, PA, on January 14, 1920, to Ernest Calvin and Margaret Jane Bloom. He joined the United States Army in 1944 as an Infantryman. After his service in the Army, he came back to Akron, Ohio with his lovely wife Betty. In 1955, he and Betty with their four children moved to Chattanooga, Tenn., to attend Tennessee Temple College. He became Pastor of Friendship Baptist Church in Hixon, Tenn., in 1956 – 1959. In 1959, he moved to Bradenton, Florida and pastored Community Baptist Church from 1959 until June 1967. He moved to Ocala in June 1967, and was senior pastor until June 29, 1986. He remained pastor emeritus until the date of his death. He taught the Senior Ambassador Sunday School class for fifty years. He also is the founder of Ocala Christian Academy, and initiated Faith Promise Missions at Central Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Bloom; and son, Jesse David Bloom, Jr.. He is survived by his sons, Pastor Andy Bloom, and wife Janice, Harry James Bloom, Richard Charles Bloom, and wife Lucy, Timothy Herbert Bloom, and wife Janine; fifteen grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren.

​Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Monday, February 19, 2018, at the Central Baptist Church, with son and Pastor Andy Bloom officiating. The family will receive friends and family one hour prior to the service at 10:00 ​am. Interment with military honors will follow the service in Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens, Ocala, FL.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Central Baptist Church in memory of Dr. Jesse Bloom.  Arrangements under the care of Countryside Funeral Home, Anthony, FL.
