Helen Pauline Ferrari Woodring Gottlieb, 91, daughter of Paul Ferrari and Genoveffa (Genevieve) Trapletti Ferrari, passed away peacefully at her home in Ocala, Florida on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. She was predeceased by five sisters, two husbands (Charles E. Woodring, Jr. of State College, PA and Arthur A. Gottlieb of Ocala, FL), and one grandson (Adam T.W. Berg of State College).
Helen attended Penn State University where she met her first husband known by many as "Chuck". They married while he was on a leave from his service as a flight navigator in World War II. They raised daughter Carole Lyn Woodring and son Jeffrey Craig Woodring while Chuck completed his studies at Penn's Wharton School, taught at PSU, founded University Realty, and served as Centre County Commissioner. Helen was active in many social and charitable activities in support of State College organizations, including Centre Community Hospital, State College Presbyterian Church (where she taught Sunday school), Sigma Sigma Sorority and Club Scouts. She enjoyed fiction, as well as bridge, golf, and dancing (Centre Hills Country Club and Elks Club). She shared her talent in fashion, home decor, and cooking. Special activities included attending Broadway shows and organizing picnics for her children and their grandmothers. After Chuck's death on April 8, 1969, she married Art Gottlieb who was teaching military science at PSU. The couple alternated seasons in State College and Florida where Art was an avid golfer. They traveled abroad to areas where Helen's parents were born and Art served as a military diplomat. Over two decades ago they settled full time in Ocala's Golden Hills Golf Club and Turf community.
Helen will be privately laid to rest at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. Memorial contributions may be given to any branch of medical research dear to the hearts of her friends. Her family welcomes contact through Carole Woodring (26 Overbrook Road, Madison, CT 06443-1834) or Jeff Woodring (4445 N 137th St., Anthony, FL 32617-9599). Helen is also survived by granddaughters, Nicole L.W. Berg (a teacher living in Downington, PA), Jessica L.W.B. Avery (with husband Julian Avery, State College, PA), Elizabeth (Beth) M.W. Petescia (with husband Chris Petescia, Brooklyn & Clinton, NY), as well as great-granddaughters, Arden L. and Linden W. Avery, and Olivia A. Petescia; son-in-law Eric M.
