In loving memory of Helmut F. Lekschas of Reddick, Florida who passed away on Sunday October 6, 2024 at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Kurt and Marta Lekschas, and sister-in-laws: Patty Grabow and Nancy O’Brien.
Born in Lithuania and raised in Germany, Helmut was adopted by his grandparents and brought to the United States when he was 10 years old. Helmut’s affection for animals started early on and in 1979 he was able to start HL Quarter Horses in Wisconsin where breeding, raising, and showing horses was his passion. His love for animals didn’t stop there and over the years he enjoyed raising all sorts of unique animals including zebu, goats, ostrich, emus, rheas, peacocks, numerous varieties of chickens, pheasants, quail, and many others. In 1999 Helmut, Judy, and the animals made the move to Florida. There he took great pride in showing off his animals and loved to spend his days riding around in his golf cart and chatting with visitors. He was very involved in the lives of his family and loved ones and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Judy; children: Jenny (George) and Kurt (Tricia); his granddaughters: Morgan, Brenna, Taylor, and Delaney; sister Adelheid (Lothar); sister-in-law Susie (Justice); brother-in-law John (Joanne) and numerous nieces and nephews.
