Hlui Lee

Hlui Kim Lee, 83, of St. Augustine, FL peacefully passed away on Oct. 19, 2021 after a 10 year battle with Parkinsons and Dementia.

Hlui Kim was born on January 23, 1938 to Mr. Ah Hoe Lee and Mrs. Khou Len Wong in Falam, Chin Hills, Burma. He graduated from Rangoon Institute of Technology in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.

He met Freda Gladys Mundt, and they wed in October 8, 1965 where they had 4 children, Sandra, Julie, Alvin and Sylvia.

Kim's priority was to provide a better life for his family and emigrated from Burma to the USA in 1972, determined to give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of all of his children and always tried his best to support them.

Kim was also passionate about photography, tennis, classical guitar, traveling and could often be found at the tennis courts, or a local coffee shop listening to live music.   He is a self-taught classical guitar luthier.

Kim was a strong, kind, loving, and supportive father. His knowledge and guidance was the foundation of his family. Kim was predeceased by Mr. Ah Hoe Lee (father), Mrs. Khou Len Wong (mother), Fong Paing Lee (sister), Loo Nawn Lee (brother), Da Sim Lee (brother), Hlui Va Lee (brother) and Jenny (daughter). He is survived by his ex-wife Freda, daughters Sandra (Keenan – husband), Julie (Daniel – husband, children Max and Zachary), Sylvia and son Alvin (Amy – wife, daughter Adalyn).  His children went on to pursue careers in aerospace/defense, retail and hospitality.

In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution to the American Parkinson Disease Association or the Michael J Fox Foundation.

Graveside services will be 2pm, Saturday October 30, 2021 at Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery, 7204 SE County Road 234, Gainesville, Florida 32641.  Due to COVID restrictions, the cemetery has limited attendance to 30 people.  If interested in attending, please first contact the family.
