James Mixson

James Richard “Cat” Mixson died July 30, 2016 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, surrounded by family and close friends. Born July 21, 1945 in Gainesville, Cat grew up in Flemington, graduated from Reddick High School. He became an Army Ranger and served in Vietnam. He was a firefighter for the Ocala Fire Department for 25 years. He owned and managed a local farm raising cattle and coastal hay.
He was predeceased by his parents, Miles Benjamin and Genevieve Mixson and his brother, Allen.
He is survived by his companion in life, Valerie Fortin; his nephew, Bruce Allen Mixson of Sylvania, Georgia; several cousins, many friends and his beloved dog, Brisa.
Services will be held Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, Anthony, FL.
