SILVER SPRINGS, Mr. James Colin Peebles, 83, passed away at Estelle House, Ocala, on January 16, 2021. He was a Marion County native and graduate of Ocala High School. A member of Central Baptist Church where he sang in the choir, served as a leader and deacon for over 50 years. As a youth, he was active in the Future Farmers of America and got his first job at Sparr Building & Farm Supply where he met his future wife Jackie. He later worked for Ocala Lumber Sales/G&M Cattle Company for over 50 years as manager and overseer of the Timber and Cattle Division. A long
time member of the Florida Cattleman’s Association, his heart and soul was “everything cows”, a true Florida Cattleman. He has volunteered at the Southeastern Youth Fair since the 1950’s and the 2014 SEYF was dedicated in his honor.
He was preceded in death by his parents James Robert Peebles, Frances Evelyn (Hampton) Peebles, and his loving, devoted wife Jacquelyn Eloise (Griggs) Peebles.
He is survived by his two sons, Jeff Peebles of Silver Springs and Elbert Ray Peebles of Shreveport, Louisiana. Brothers Bobby and Billy Peebles, sisters Evelyn Ozier and Betty Cheatom, plus many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, 9185 NE Jacksonville Road, Anthony, FL. and there will be a graveside service Thursday, January 21 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donations be sent to Hospice of Marion County, and/ or Gideon’s International.
