John Hill

John Phillip Hill, Sr., 80, passed away January 30, 2020.

John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Joan Elizabeth Hill; son, John Phillip Hill, Jr.; daughters, Julie Hill; Carol Tasel (Murat).  He also leaves behind six grandchildren – Courtney DeBold (Sterling), Megan York (Taylor), Ben Tasel, Grace Tasel, Aidan Tasel, and Jacob Rawlings; two great grandchildren – Lyla DeBold, Paisley York; three sisters - Alice Kauffman, Mary Lee Murphy, Betty Ann Reed; as well as numerous inlaws, nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Cullins and Jessie; his daughter, Laura Rawlings (Brian); and two brothers, Samuel and Joseph.

John was born January 5, 1940 in Bushwood, Maryland to Joseph Cullins Hill, and Jessie Sydnor Hill Richardson.  He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and retired in 2000 from Giant Food where he worked as a Millwright for 25+ years. After their retirement, John and Joan spent 16 years at Ocean Ridge Plantation in North Carolina, making wonderful friends and playing golf.  John was an avid golfer and had scored six holes-in-one and a double eagle.  He also loved playing cards with friends and family.

John will be laid to rest in the Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland with Military Honors on Monday, February 10, 2020 at 2:30 pm.  A Celebration of Life will follow at 4:00 pm at the Banquet Hall of the Accokeek Fire Department, 16111 Livingston Road, Accokeek, Maryland 20607. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in memory of John.
