John William (Coach) Moore
John was born in Johnstown, Pa on August 24th, 1939 and passed away on November 14th, 2024 at the age of 85 years.
John attended Waynesburg College in Waynesburg, Pa on a Wrestling Scholarship and it was his college years that sparked the huge love of the Sport of Wrestling. He wrestled all 4 years and was a 4 I champion while he was there.
Upon college graduation, John was a school teacher at Bemus Point, NY and Elk Grove, IL before finally settling at Forest High School in Ocala where he was for 34 years.
John Moore was always passionate about Wrestling and he coached at many of the places he taught but none more than at FHS where he coached for about 20 years! It was as the Wrestling Coach that he touched the lives of so many. Overall, he produced 14 District Titles, 2 Regional Titles and had 3 State Champions in those years at Forest High. He was better known around Ocala after that as “Coach Moore”. It was said that he pushed his Wrestlers to levels they had not known. His coaching career came to an end in the 1990’s but he kept his hand in the sport for some time after this. The culmination of his fine career was being elected to the Wrestling Hall of Fame as a Coach in the class of 2008.
John is survived by his wife of 46 years, Adelaide Moore, his Children, Kelle and Mark Moore, his son Daniel Biggs, Daughter Diana Lewis (Deceased) and his Granddaughter, Morgan Lewis.
The Memorial Service for John “Coach” Moore will be held on January 18, 2025 at the Hilton Ocala Conference Rooms from 1-4 p.m.
