Joseph Evon Daigle, a cherished husband, father, and grandfather, passed away unexpectedly on July 23, 2024, to be with the Lord. Born on February 17, 1935, in Fort Kent, Maine, Joseph was the seventh son of the late Emile and Leona Daigle.
He graduated from Fort Kent Community High School in 1953 and served in the Army towards the end of the Korean War, working as a mechanic stateside. On August 10, 1959, he married Betty, and together they lived in various places between Connecticut and Maine before settling in Florida.
Throughout his career, Joseph held several roles, including insurance agent for Allstate, foreman at woods camps for Great Northern and HO Bouchard, potato farmer, and a lawn maintenance caretaker. He enjoyed snowmobiling, ice skating (where he won several trophies), and hunting. He was also actively involved in his community as a member of the Fort Kent School Board and the Knights of Columbus. He even built and raced a soapbox derby car with his late son, Gerry. Joseph had a deep passion for labor work and was a true fixer-upper, known for his exceptional skills and dedication to tackling any project even in his later years.
Joseph is survived by his brother Richard; his sisters Doris and Ann; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of Gerald, Brian and his wife Janet of Vernon, Connecticut; Denise Anderson and her husband Jon of Wallagrass, Maine; and Margaret "Peggy" Watkins and her husband Joel of Ocala, Florida.
Known affectionately as “Pepere,” Joseph was a beloved grandfather to seven and a great-grandfather to two. His grandchildren are Patricia Daigle and her fiancé Eric of Orange City, Florida, and their son Eli; Cody Anderson and his wife Mary of Orono, Maine, and their son Caleb; Alyssa Bailey and her husband Jordan of Plaistow, New Hampshire; Amanda Rasch of Jacksonville, Florida; Alicia Daigle and her partner Matthew McClure of Vernon, Connecticut; B Daigle and their partner Jin Jin Heipler of Concord, Massachusetts; and Jesse Anderson of Wallagrass, Maine.
Joseph was predeceased by his wife Betty; his parents, Emile and Leona Daigle; his brothers Hermal, Roland, Raoul, and Paul; his sisters, infant Marie Teresa, Pauline, and Fernande; and his child Gerry.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Thomas Church, 872 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford, CT 06119, at 10:00 A.M. on August 10, 2024. The service will be livestreamed and available for future viewing. This date marks what would have been Joseph and Betty's 65th wedding anniversary, as they were married on the same day in the same church. The interment at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida will be scheduled at a later date.
Joseph’s memory will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
