Julia O'Donnell

Julia E. O’Donnell left this world during the month of May. She was beautiful, giving, and kind;
an affectionate and loving woman who, despite an upbringing full of storms, never raised her
voice with her own children. Instead, she was the warm touch of the sun, the gentle breeze of
the shore, the innocence of a summer day; a wonderful mother who baked you cookies and
rubbed your back until you fell asleep. Though the pain of her loss cuts deeper than the Atlantic,
we take comfort in the fact she’s at last been reunited with her brother, Butchy; a protector and
best friend who always made her laugh, and who undoubtedly left the light on until she arrived.
We take joy in the fact she’s once again on the ferry to her family’s summer home on Fire
Island, her favorite place in the world — where she will race horseshoe crabs with her cousins,
her skin glistening with salt and sun, and find her final peace beside the ocean she cherished.
No services will be held, though in-memoriam donations may be made to The Humane Society
of the United States (hsus.org) and condolences may be sent to PO Box 830 999, Ocala FL
34483-0999.
