Laura A. Mitchum, 82, of Reddick, Florida passed away on August 24, 2023. She was born in Gainesville.
Georgia, at the age of ten Ann moved to Leesburg, Florida. Ann graduated from Leesburg High School in
1958. After graduating she worked at the Woolsworth lunch counter, she also worked making
thermometers. In 1964 she met the love of her life Pat Mitchum and they married in December 1964.
The happy couple moved to Marion County, where they found their forever home in the town of
Reddick. Ann and Pat were deeply rooted in stock car racing and they both served as Nascar officials in
the late 60’s early 70’s. After many years of praying Ann gave birth to her only child Patricia Ann in 1979.
Laura enjoyed 34 years of marriage with Pat until his untimely passing in 1997. Before having her own
daughter, Ann helped to raise nieces and nephews. She also opened her home to her sister in law. Laura
helped to mold several people into who they are today. Laura found a new purpose in life after losing
Pat when she was blessed with two granddaughters Emily and Katie Ann. She is also expecting her first
great grandchild in a few months. Ann had many careers over the years including seamstress, crossing
guard, everyone’s favorite girl scout leader, and in 2008 she retired as a lunch lady at North Marion
Middle school. Laura is proceeded in death by her husband Pat T. Mitchum, both her parents Holzey and
Pearl Brooks, and sisters June Adams and Janie Willis. She leaves behind to cherish her memory
daughter Patricia (Ronnie) Curd of Reddick, Florida, granddaughters Emily and Katie Ann Curd of
Reddick, one great grand due in March 2024.
