Maria L. Myers passed away on December 19, 2018 and has been reunited with her husband of 50 years, Judge Lewis O. Myers, Jr. Maria was born on January 14, 1926 in Sant Elia-Fiumerapido, Italy. She was the daughter of Vincenzo and Rosa Leo. She is predeceased by her husband, her parents, and by her three brothers - Antonio, Miguele, and Luciano and her sister-in-law, Jean Monroe.
Maria was born and raised in Italy. During the war, she met a young American Army soldier who was stationed in Italy and was a good friend of her brothers. Lewis swept this young lady off of her feet, (as well as her mother, Rosa) and they got married in August 1945. Lewis was still serving in the Army, so Maria came by boat to America. When she got to America, she had a host of "Myers" relatives waiting to meet her and welcome her. Maria was a homemaker and raised four children, Lucian, Rose, Anna and Leo. While she was raising her family, she learned the English language, and also studied to become a U.S. Citizen. She received her naturalization certificate in June 1952 in the District Court in Jacksonville. Maria and Lewis traveled to many places and she was always the one everyone wanted to be around. Maria belonged to many civic organizations during her lifetime and held the position of President in most of them. She was a hard worker and made sure that everything was in order. She was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Ocala.
Maria is survived by her children, Lucian (Maria) Myers of Ocala, FL, Rose (Jack) Roberts of Ocala, FL, Anna (Michael) McCurry of Ocala, FL and Leo Myers of Ocala, FL. She was blessed with nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, and one more on the way in April.
Interment will be at Hickory Springs (Zion Hill) in Romeo, FL.
