Mary Jane Coy (9/29/36 – 5/14/17)
After a long, hard fought battle with cancer, Mary Jane Coy joined her husband Paul in Heaven on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 14th, 2017.
Mary Jane Baker was born in Jacksonville, Florida on September 29, 1936 to Willard and Pauline Baker. She was raised in Michigan, attending local schools in Battle Creek. Mary Jane was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and daughter. She retired after a career as Executive Secretary for the Drug and Alcohol Abuse Clinic at the University of Utah. Mary Jane was an avid fan of the “great outdoors” and spent many summers in Utah’s Wasatch Mountains where she loved to camp with her family. “Fun Bus” trips to Wendover, Nevada and playing Bingo were many of her favorite pastimes. Mary Jane delighted her family and friends during Thanksgiving and Christmas by baking her annual holiday cookies and renowned candy cake. Mary Jane bred, raised and groomed AKC Poodles for many years; serving as a testimony to her passion for animals. She loved her dogs and you would always find them cuddled up close to her.
Mary Jane married Manuel DeTorres in 1953 and they had five children. They divorced in 1972 after 19 years of marriage. Mary Jane married Paul Coy of Ogden, UT in 1986. Mary Jane and Paul lived many wonderful years in Utah and upon retirement moved to Florida to live out their Golden Years. Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband; Paul, grand-daughter; Jerika DeTorres and Stepson; Bobbie (Sherry) Coy. Surviving are her brothers; Carl (Janet) Baker, Chuck (Sandy) Baker, sister; Louise Brunner, sons; David (Reenie) DeTorres, Tony (Amy) DeTorres, daughters; Debbie (Danny) Torman, Pennie DeTorres, Nina (Mike) Heck, step-daughter; Paula (Jeff) Bobby, step-son; Michael (Dawn) Coy, 39 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren. While in Florida, Mary Jane and Paul helped raise their grandchildren; Darrin, Anthony and Lillie.
Mass will take place at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church (5 SE 17th St, Ocala, FL 34471) on May 19th, 2017 at 9:30 am with the viewing to follow at 10:30. The Funeral will take place at the Florida National Cemetery (6502 SW 102nd Ave Bushnell, FL 33513) at 1:30 pm. Those wishing to send flowers, can send them directly to Blessed Trinity Catholic Church.
Mom, you can’t imagine how much you’ll be missed but we are comforted knowing there is no longer any pain. We have the faith you taught us that there is Nothing but Love and Peace in the presence of God.
