Nancy Leigh Stroud Hicken was born in Ocala, FL on May 13, 1933 and passed from this life on September 12, 2017, having lived in, and loved, Ocala her entire life.
She was preceded in death by her husband and childhood sweetheart, Harry T. Hicken, in 2011. She had a full and wonderful 56 years of marriage to Harry, and we will think only of those years when we remember her. Today Nancy is happy again, and she is walking hand and hand with the love of her life in heaven.
The much cherished family she leaves behind include her daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Bill English (Citra, FL), Joni and Durwood Howell (Winston-Salem, NC), and Laura and Duane Miller (Atlanta, GA); granddaughters, Alysse Prosnick, Sarah Howell, Abby Miller, and Amanda Miller, great-grandsons, Ethan and Caleb Prosnick, sister-in-law, Pat Bishop, and two nieces and two nephews.
Nancy loved every moment she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved Jesus and her church, First United Methodist Church of Ocala. She appreciated every day that God gave her to enjoy her flowers, the birds she loved watching, walks on the beach, trips to the mountains, UF football games, and time spent with friends. Nancy lived her faith every single day and was a shining example to her family and her friends. She loved us all unconditionally, and we were so richly blessed to have her in our lives.
A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at 2:00pm at Ocala First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Nancy’s memory to Hospice of Marion County, POB 4860, Ocala, FL, 34478 or to the “Tuesday Morning Outreach Ministry” of the Ocala First United Methodist Church.
