Nina Glaydene McPherson Huffaker, age 85 of Ocala, Florida, formerly of Monroe County, KY passed away on January 30, 2021 at Brandley Hospice House in Summerfield, FL. She was born February 11, 1935, a daughter of the late Emma Froedge and Roscoe Martin.
Glaydene grew up in Tompkinsville and attended Tompkinsville High School, where she was a cheerleader and Homecoming Queen.
She married Royce McPherson and they moved to Memphis, TN where he attended Southern College of Optometry. While there she taught 2nd grade at West Memphis Arkansas Elementary School. Her passion while in Memphis was spending her Saturday's sitting at the gates of Graceland in hopes to meet Elvis!
Upon Royce's graduation they returned to Tompkinsville to open his practice, and over the years they had three children, Terry, Sherry, and Emilie. Glaydene was a loving mother and busy raising their children. She was later widowed in 1980. She returned to Western Kentucky University and completed her Masters of Education and began teaching again at Joe Harrison Carter Elementary School. In 1983, she married Ralph Huffaker and moved to Ocala, Florida, where she continued teaching until her retirement in 2005.
Glaydene was a lifelong Christian, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her three children, Terry Lucas McPherson, and wife Diane, of Somerset, KY; Sherry Martin McPherson Shaw, and husband, Wendell of Ocala, FL; and Emilie Ellen McPherson of Ocala, FL; grandchildren, Morgan Cimala (Ron), Shawna McDonald (Kash), Trenton Royce Murphy (Ashley), Trever Murphy, Martin McPherson (Chelsea), and Emily Michele Miller (Ian); great grandchildren, Peyton and Elsie Cimala, Kara and Warren Miller, Zachary, Mackenzie and Paisley Murphy, Carson and Chasen McDonald and John Murphy. Also surviving is one step daughter, Sandra Johnson and husband, Terry; and a step son, Kyle Huffaker, both of Carrollton, GA. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands, Dr. Royce McPherson and Ralph Huffaker; brother, Jesse Martin; and sisters, Jewell Pitcock and Wilodene Bryant Hollinsworth; and a grandson, Nicholas Wayne Shaw.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Yokley Trible Funeral Home. Visitation is Tuesday, 5-7 PM, and Wednesday morning after 10:00 AM until service time. Burial is in Oak Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Glaydene's memory may be made to Oak Hill Cemetery or to Hospice of Marion County, 3231 SW 34th Ave., Ocala, FL 34474.
Pallbearers will be Martin McPherson, Kash McDonald, Ron Cimala, Ian Miller, Jim Bryant, John Bryant, Joe Bryant, and Jeff Bryant.
Honorary Pallbearers are Trenton and Trevor Murphy, Beverly Martin, Jerry Pitcock, Mike McPherson, Douglas McPherson, Gary Hodge and Inez Pedigo.
