Philip Gregor Fanelli

December 14, 1935 — September 23, 2024

Philip Gregor Fanelli, affectionately known as Big, Big Bubby, and Gregor, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2024, in Ocala, Florida, at the age of 88. Born in Reddick, Florida, on December 14, 1935, Philip was a lifelong resident of Marion County, Florida and a beloved member of his community.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Alice Faye Pulliam Fanelli, whom he married on August 11, 1962. Philip leaves behind his two sons, Michael Fanelli and his wife, Michelle, and Scott Fanelli and his wife, Sheri. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Shannon, daughter of Michael and Michelle; and Mitchell and Kathryn, children of Scott and Sheri.

Philip was predeceased by his father, Victor Fanelli; his mother, Sylvia Murphy Fanelli; his sisters Maxine Herndon and Mary Sue Fanelli; and his twin brother, Michael Gordon Fanelli. He is survived by his sister, Martha Scott.

A lifelong member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, Philip's faith was a central part of his life. He married Alice at Blessed Trinity, and it was there that his children were baptized, attended school, and later married. His deep connection to the church community was a source of strength and joy throughout his life.

Philip graduated from Reddick High School and briefly attended Central Florida Community College before serving in the United States Army Signal Corps, where he developed his skills in communication installation. After his military service, he built a long and successful career in line construction and phone installation with Florida Telephone, which later transitioned to other telecommunications companies. Philip retired on March 1, 1998, after more than 38 years of dedicated service.

Philip enjoyed all sports, both playing and watching, and many will remember the countless hours he and Alice spent sitting together in the stands at local sporting events. He also formed many lasting friendships through his love of sports, especially those created while playing softball with coworkers from the phone company. His infectious smile and sense of humor were loved by all who knew him, and his warmth and good-natured spirit made him a joy to be around.

Philip will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his faith, and his ability to bring joy and laughter to those around him. His contributions to telecommunications, his commitment to his church, and the lasting impact he made on his community will never be forgotten.

A Funeral service will be held at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at 10:30 AM. A viewing will be held prior to the service beginning at 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Philip’s honor to Blessed Trinity Catholic Church.
