Ocala – Robert William Dugas, 73, a good timin’ man, passed away May 20, 2016. Born January 26, 1943 in Malden, Massachusetts to Harry William and Catherine Long Dugas. A veteran of the US Navy, he went on to fly for a few Caribbean airlines, mosquito patrol in the Keys, the Saudi royal family and some South Americans.
He is survived by his good hearted woman of 32 years, Nan Markt Dugas. His kids also survived: Michael Robert (Nichole), Christopher William (Tracy), Alexandra Ann Silic (Alexander) and Shane Markt. Speaking of survival, this Dugas made it through some things: 7.2 ounces of rum per day, a helicopter crash, a plane crash, importing exotic Colombian flora, another plane crash, delivering a baby, a 44 day stay at the Al-Ruwais resort and 16 rounds of chemo. His brother Jim (who likewise survived) was an accountant while his sister Joan (another survivor) kindly lent him a hand a few times.
He loved playing cards, shooting darts, shooting pool, reading up on cosmology, buying ice cream for his grandkids, making friends, drinking cuba libres and enjoying a party. He considered himself a gardener and good cook. We consider him a bit out of touch. Regardless, Bob, thanks for all the good times, love and endless generosity. We decided to make the services private to save on party expenses. In lieu of flowers, rum or bibles, just donate in his name to either UF Shands Cancer Center Fund or to Hospice of Marion County.
