Robert Lightbody passed from this life on Sept 13, 2016, at age 94. He was born in Daykin Nebraska to Harry & Elizabeth Lightbody on April 12, 1922. The family moved to Iowa where he received his education, graduating from Charles City high School and the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls Iowa. He served 3 ½ years in the Army Air Force during WW II in Aviation Radio Communications and maintenance. Prior to that, he spent as an Assembler.
He met Glendora Cagley and they were married on Nov 7, 1947, in the First Baptist Church in Charles City, IA. They became parents of 4 sons, all surviving: Larry Allen of Waterloo, IA; John Robert of Silver Springs, FL; Richard Ralph of Clear Lake, IA; James Michael of Tulsa, Ok. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews.
Robert taught instrumental music and was a band director in Iowa public schools for 25 years. He also worked in a motor-home factory for 7-8 years and a home for handicapped people in Clear Lake, IA.
Bob & Glendora retired to Silver Springs, FL, where they are members of Faith Baptist Church in the Ocala National Forest. Services are to be held in that church at 11:00 am on Monday, Sept 19, 2016, with Pastor Roger Walton officiating. Burial will be in Waldena Cemetery.
