Mr. William Rudolph "Butch" Mason passed away on November 5, 2023 after losing a battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Butch was preceded in death by his parents William “Bill” Mason and June Stringer Mason Splader and siblings Ben Mason, Pam Mason, and Gary “Big Butch” Mason. He is survived by his wife Tonja Mason, sons Richard Mason and Tim (Michelle) Mason, daughter Hallie Dukes, grandchildren Maeve Mason, Salem and Sunny Dukes and son-in-law Sanders Dukes. He is also survived by siblings June Beth Mason (Antonio) Youngblood, Nancy Lounsbury (late Vance Lounsbury), Cynthia (Alan) Encinosa, Charlotte (Brion) Lundy, Kenneth Mason, Jerry Mason, Evelyn Turner, Linda (Adrian) Turner, Penny Mason Gonzalez, sister-in-law Laynette (Mike) Cochran. Butch is also survived by his aunt Jean Stringer Burmester and cousin Roger (Adele) Rewis along with a number of nieces and nephews and his lifelong friends Andrew Robinson and Rickie (Mike) Firestone.
Butch was a devoted Florida Gator football fan and loved Nascar. He was an avid collector of Hot Wheels diecast cars. Butch spent most of his life in Jacksonville and retired from Mayo Clinic in 2020 with 30 years of service. After retiring, he moved to Glencoe, Alabama and worked for Mr. Chimney Cap and Mike's Custom Gutters until his diagnosis and then returned to Florida to be closer to his family.
Butch was a devoted husband, father, Papa, brother and friend. He was a loving and kind person and he loved his "Furbabies."
A memorial will be held at Hunter Park Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL on November 18th at 2pm. Refreshments and fellowship following. In lieu of flowers, Butch asked for donations to your local animal shelter.
The family wishes to say a special thanks to Gentiva Hospice of Marion County, and his nurses Christina and Tamala for their services during his time with them.
