William “Bill” Thomas Powell, 83, passed away December 18, 2018. He was born on May 1, 1935 in Rowlesburg, WV to Harlan and Sadie Lipscomb Powell. He lived in Ocala, FL for the last 42 years.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Hopper Powell, whom he married on June 24, 1959. They were married for 57 years until her death on March 12, 2017. He was also preceded in death by brothers Roy Wesley Powell of Philadelphia, PA, Harlen Powell of Holly Hill, FL, Robert L Powell of Bruceton Mills, WV, and a sister, Elizabeth Ann Cooper of Morgantown, WV. Surviving members of his family include a brother, Eugene Powell of Morgantown, WV; a daughter Karen Gaynor and her husband Seth of Jacksonville Beach, FL; a son, William Eugene Powell of Ft McCoy, FL; and a son, Keith Wesley Powell and Patricia of Reddick, FL. Grandchildren include Daniel Gaynor, Sarah Gaynor, William Robert Powell, Bradley Powell, Nicholas Powell and Chandler Powell. Bill also had four great grandchildren.
Bill served honorably in the United States Air Force from March, 1954 to September, 1961. Bill was self-employed most of his life including owning a nursery business, a construction company and a working in property management. His hobbies included flying, football and NASCAR racing. He also loved to listen to classic country music.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the people of The Bridge in Ocala, FL and Hospice of Marion County for their loving care during his final days. The family would also like to thank Countryside Funeral Home for graciously providing their valued service.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Countryside Funeral Home, with Russell Clark officiating. Inurnment will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. Arrangements are under care of Countryside Funeral Home, Anthony, FL.
